The real cost is the nightly rate multiplied by nights and rooms, plus breakfast and city tax per person per night, plus getting to and from the hotel. A cheap room far out of the centre often ends up dearer than a central one once two taxis a day are added.
How we calculate
The room cost is the nightly rate multiplied by nights and rooms. Breakfast and city tax are counted per person per night, while transport is added once for the whole trip.
City tax is normally collected at the property and is not part of the rate booking sites display. In 2026 it typically runs from 1 to 6 per person per night in European cities, in the currency you have selected.

Frequently asked questions
- Why is the total higher than the price I saw in search?
- Many booking sites quote a nightly rate before taxes and fees. We show the total for the whole stay, but city tax and some property fees are still collected on arrival.
- Is it worth staying outside the centre?
- Only when transport is cheap or included. Two taxi rides a day quickly eat the 30 to 50 you saved on the room.
