The old town on the east bank of the Onyar river is the obvious base, walkable and close to the cathedral steps and El Call quarter, while the newer part of town across the river has more modern, often cheaper hotels a short walk from the centre. Rates rise around the Temps de Flors flower festival in May and during the cycling season, given the city's popularity with road cyclists.
