The city centre around Shop Street and the Latin Quarter is small enough to explore entirely on foot, and most hotels sit within or just outside this core; Salthill, a short walk or bus ride along the promenade, offers a quieter seaside alternative. Rates rise sharply during the Galway International Arts Festival in July and the Galway Races in late July and early August.
Best time to visit: May, June and September, avoiding the Arts Festival and Races weeks if lower prices matter.
