The Hotel Zone is a long sandbar where most large resorts sit on the beach itself, connected by a single avenue and frequent buses; downtown Cancun is a fifteen-minute ride away and far cheaper, though you'll need transport to reach the sea. Rates climb hard around spring break in March and around Christmas and New Year, and hurricane season runs roughly June to November.
