Neighbourhood by neighbourhood, on a budget
Vesterbro is the natural base: the meatpacking district's restaurants, the station next door and prices below the inner city. The side streets off Istedgade are where the cheapest beds sit.
Nørrebro, around Nørrebrogade and the lakes, is younger and more local, with the metro at its edge and some of the city's best-value food. Amager, around the Amagerbro and Amager Strand stops, trades ten minutes on the metro for noticeably lower prices and a beach at the end of the line.
The districts around Østerport and Nordhavn, on the metro's city ring, are newer and quieter, with good-value modern hotels a few minutes from the centre.
What you trade away
Space and the famous address, mostly. Budget rooms in Copenhagen are compact by design, and the affordable districts are residential rather than postcard Copenhagen.
